Biological WtE concepts: in-vessel dry AD and RDF biodrying
Waste-to-energy is becoming increasingly important as both an energy supply and waste treatment concept. Besides mechanical (sorting) and physical-chemical technologies (incineration), biology can play a key role within these concepts. Anaerobic in-vessel digestion of solid organic wastes produces biogas for grid injection, while producing quality compost for agriculture instead of liquid digestate. Aerobic in-vessel biodrying of MSW reduces moisture content, allowing better sorting of recyclables while increasing RDF caloric value.
