Keep Britain Tidy worked in partnership with Milton Keynes Council to design an innovative programme of work to tackle recycling contamination using insights from Keep Britain Tidy’s Inside the Head of the Contaminator behavioural research. The programme aimed to give the council robust evidence about what works so that effective interventions can be scaled up for broader impact. Results of the programme and recommendations for other local authorities will be revealed at RWM.

  • An understanding of the latest behavioural insights around recycling contamination
  • Awareness of tested interventions which have been designed using behavioural insights to reduce contamination
  • Recommendations for how local authorities and collection contractors can apply these insights and interventions to their own strategies for improving recycling quality
