The On-Pack Recycling Label (OPRL)
OPRL’s on-pack recycling labels were launched 9 years ago to provide clear, evidenced recycling advice. Now over 600 brands use our labels, from tiny start-ups to established household brands, environmental charities to global corporates.
Consumers say they’re frustrated they don’t understand which packaging can be recycled, or how and Blue Planet II has reinforced this frustration. Over 7 in 10 understand our clear, consistent on-pack guidance and expect their favourite brands and retailers to supply it.
The On-Pack Recycling Label delivers a simple, UK-wide, consistent recycling message for retailer private label and brand-owner packaging. Unlike other recycling labels our messages reflect UK local authority recycling collections.
Our labels have been endorsed by UN Environment Programme, Defra and the National Infrastructure Commission. We are delivery partners with WRAP under the UK Plastics Pact.
This year we’re launching two major new tools for members which will meet the challenges of National Sword, Extended Producer Responsibility, Single Plastic Tax and help deliver commitments under the Plastics Pact:
- The PREP UK packaging design tool, proven in Australia as supporting more recyclable design; and
- Our consumer recycling app, giving personalised and location-specific recycling advice in the home or on the go.
