Years in industry: 25+

Challenge everything, because the industry is changing so quickly.

What was your first job in the resource/waste industry and how did that come about?

I worked as a CAD technician in consultancy with MJ Carter Associates (environmental consultants).

What does your typical day look like?

Each day I spend 30 minutes learning about something new. I spend time travelling and in meetings, and then fit in delivery of work around all of that.

What is the best part of your job?

There is so many new things to learn about and do.

And the toughest?

Combining of all the varied elements into integrated actions.

What advice would you give someone starting out?

Challenge everything, because the industry is changing so quickly.

What do you perceive to be the most impactful change to the industry since you started working in the sector?

Manufacturing solutions and practise.

If you were DEFRA Minister for Waste and Resource for a day what one thing would you action?

A requirement for a set of minimum waste data to be collected from all sources, allowing informed decisions and actions.

What’s your favourite memory of attending RWM? (Do you have any photos of past shows?)

Going ‘off piste’ as chair in the Local Authority theatre, during a debate on food waste collection/treatment and seeing the panel’s faces quizzically questioning where the whole debate would end.

How do you play your part in ‘One planet living’?

By gaining new knowledge, by sharing that knowledge, and by enthusiastically trying to do the right thing personally.
