Burmeister & Wain Scandinavian Contractor (BWSC)
Burmeister & Wain Scandinavian Contractor (BWSC) is a world-leading designer, investor, turnkey contractor, operator and service provider for power plants. Over the past four decades, BWSC has completed more than 180 power plants to 54 countries and entered into numerous operation and maintenance agreements. Most lately BWSC has been awarded the EPC contract for a waste-to-energy plant, Hooton Bio Power Resource Recovery Centre Project in the UK. BWSC shall furthermore operate the facility under a 15 years operation and maintenance contract.
The Hooton Bio Power facility will be the first non-subsidised merchant gasification facility in the UK and it is the first time the UK market will realise a gasification plant of this size, based on fluidised bed technology provided by Japanese Kobelco Eco Solution.
The Hooton facility will gasify some 240,000 tonnes of waste per year, generating in excess of 200 GWh of electricity annually. The facility is expected to be operational in the second half of 2021.
The Hooton plant is the tenth project in the UK in just over ten years, and with operation and maintenance contracts on equally as many, we look forward to many more years working with our partners, suppliers and customers in the UK market.
BWSC originates from Burmeister & Wain, which built and installed engines for power plants as early as 1904. BWSC was established as a separate specialist company in 1980 and has been a subsidiary company of Mitsui E&S Holdings Co., Ltd. since 1990. In 2018, BWSC`s annual revenue was EUR 290 million.
